THE ALBUM

The new album has finally been mixed and mastered. I can now reveal that it’ll be titled Crossing Borders, which seems to well describe some of the recurring themes running through the songs.

Many of the characters that inhabit the tracks are leaving their own countries or trying to reach some kind of promised land. These are their stories and their voices, at a time when we in the west seem to be heading towards division and fear of people that don’t look or speak like us. They are an attempt to go behind stereotypes and prejudice.

I’ve drawn a bit from my personal experience. After all I’m an immigrant, albeit a very lucky one thanks to the colour of my passport. But in reality, most of the inspiration comes from stories I heard from people I met, books I read and things I saw, all incredible stories of individuals who undertook the perilous voyage across lands and seas in search of a better future for themselves and for their families. I have deep respect for these people, and I hope their countries of destination have been good to them.

But Crossing Borders is by no means only about migrations. There are also many other themes snaking through the songs, perhaps more evidently in songs like Ghost Town Now, I Still See Your Face and The Final Call.

The title Crossing Borders also describes some of the recording techniques we used. I’m referring to remote recordings. Our keyboard player Alessio Sanna and bassist Silvano Lobina recorded their parts at their home studios back in Sardinia, sending me files that we would then add up to the main project at Soho Studios here in London. At one point there were several files travelling to and from Sardinia. It felt like the songs were effortlessly doing the very thing that the characters were attempting to do.

These are some of the trivia surrounding Crossing Borders, but in the end the real message I’d like to deliver is that we have a bunch of brand new songs that, in our humble opinion, sound really good! We massively enjoyed recording them and we hope you’ll enjoy listening to them too. As for the future, I can’t wait to play all these tracks live in a town near you!
